I Spoke With Sofia Richie Grainge About Her New Amazon Line

When it comes to her personal style, Sofia Richie Grainge is known for her clean, elevated, and refined taste. Now, picture that same sensibility applied to children’s clothes. Since becoming a mom to her 1-year-old daughter, Eloise, Richie Grainge has partnered with Amazon Essentials to create her own line of practical pieces that still feel chic.

The latest release for spring/summer follows her debut fall/winter edit and includes everything from dresses to shoes. Alongside the collection, she’s partnered with Baby2Baby and Amazon Baby Registry to curate a list of “Baby Registry Items for Every Mom”—all available to shop now. Here’s what she told me about it.

What drew you to this specific initiative with Baby2Baby, especially when it came to the donation aspect?

This Amazon collection is for summer, and obviously I’m so connected and in touch with everything baby right now, considering I have a 1-year-old—so it’s kind of all my brain thinks about. But my connection with Baby2Baby has been around for a long time. I’m very close with the founders, and I’ve always been passionate about helping mothers and children in my community and in others. It’s just always been extremely important to me.

Once I had my daughter and went through my own postpartum experiences, I started to see children and mothers in such a different—and much more sensitive—light. So I knew that giving back to Baby2Baby was, and still is, incredibly important to me. And yeah, when the opportunity came to give them a great donation, it was an absolute no-brainer. They do so much for mothers and children around the world, and any way I can help is super important to me and the brand.

You curated a baby registry as well. It feels like every new mom’s dream to have a shopping list like this. How did you decide what made the cut? And can you tell me a bit more about some of the products you included?

Yeah, so when I was pregnant, I was really desperate to find a one-stop shop for the things I genuinely needed—the actual essentials. I ended up making my own little PDF registry. And then after I gave birth, I was like, You know what I really want? To put it all in one place where other moms can go and have that same kind of one-stop shop.

For me, it was really about the essentials—things I picked up along the way that were super helpful. I just pulled everything together so other moms could see what’s truly useful to have.

You also have your own collection with Amazon—how did you bring your personal style into the line?

So for me, when I was shopping for Eloise before she was born, I was just kind of buying whatever I thought was really cute. But when the items actually arrived, I ended up donating about half of them—either because the fabric wasn’t something I approved of or there were little things that didn’t work for sensitive skin. It felt like those details maybe weren’t top of mind for the designer; it was more about the aesthetic.

So it became really important to me to be mindful of fabrics and materials while still bringing in cute styles for kids—that was huge for me. Also, having cute essentials matters. A lot of the time, when you’ve got this tiny baby who’s growing so fast, something might fit for two weeks, maybe a month max.

So having something affordable that you can keep buying is key. For me, I’m constantly reordering basic bodysuits. They don’t go out of style, they’re so adorable, and I can just size up—they go with everything. Those are the true essentials I’m always restocking in Eloise’s closet. But yeah, the fabric is so, so important—while still being cute, fun, playful, and in this case, summery.

What was your approach to designing this collection, and did your way of dressing Eloise influence it?

I think when it comes to designing kids’ clothing, there’s so much more room to be playful, have fun, and show really bold expression. It’s obviously a little harder as an adult—you can’t exactly walk around with smiling faces all over your outfit.

Designing kids’ clothes unlocked a different side of my creative brain that I’ve really been able to tap into—this inner, fun, child-play aesthetic—while still staying true to chic shapes, fun shoulders, and details like that. It’s definitely opened up a whole new creative side for me.

I saw that last year you were calling it “mom summer” instead of “Brat summer.” What’s this summer looking like for you?

You know what? I told all my girlfriends it’s my hot summer. But the truth is, I think I’m just forever having a mom summer. Like, I’m just a mom—and we can have a hot mom summer.

Do you have any advice for new moms? Or is there a particular piece of advice you’ve received that’s really stuck with you?

I think the greatest piece of advice I got was don’t be hard on yourself. All the hard times—especially postpartum—will pass. You’re doing your best as a mom. I really think that helped me push through. Being reminded of that constantly was super helpful mentally.
